Thanks for your comment. I do ag...Alliance4Health,

Thanks for your comment. I do agree that MyChart could well be described as a patient portal into an EHR, but by some definitions (including that of Detmer et al. cited in my posting), that is a PHR. MyChart does allow a little more than a pure EHR portal in allowing communication with the healthcare system.

I also completely agree with you that the incentive to use a PHR by a physician, or any healthcare provider, is tied into the financial model under which they operate. One (of many) compelling reasons to change how we fund healthcare (another topic I have written about).

Hopefully OHSU will improve its use of online tools and that our healthcare system will evolve to provide incentive for them to do so.

Bill HershWilliam Hersh, MDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08252786698451811645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1801786186944630495.post-55923205566902255982012-02-07T09:45:54.603-08:002012-02-07T09:45:54.603-08:00You actually have a patient portal into an EHR not...You actually have a patient portal into an EHR not a PHR. A PHR could include everything from your EHR (Like a bank portal) plus your own information (like quicken)

Group Health has the same EHR as that used at OSHU (I know because I implemented it)but their providers are paid for outcomes so they answer email very promptly and their are protocols for turn around built into their workflow so that the lags you encountered don't happen. The driver isn't PHR vs EHR but how they are paid to respond.

FYI the default is to release nearly all labs to patients (not pathology or AIDS) when they are resulted and there is even a mobile app that patients use - you often see them waiting in the parking lot after their visit for the results on their cell phones. .

They also have much faster turn around for emails since it goes to your medical home treatment team for general questions. Again different payment model so docs/providers dont' put email off to the end of the day. They also teach patients when something is urgent to call not use email.

Oh and you can also make your appts on your phone.. http://www.ghc.org/mobile/index.jhtmlAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15643051324986386022noreply@blogger.com
